Indonesia’s agriculture and life sciences sectors are experiencing rapid development. However, several challenges remain, including limited operational capacity for research equipment, lack of skilled personnel, and inadequate management systems. While the introduction of advanced technologies is steadily increasing, equipment utilization remains low, resulting in limited research outputs. These challenges underscore the need for systematic and continuous support, not only in infrastructure provision but also in human resource development and the establishment of effective management frameworks.

In response, the 2025 NICAB Workshop aims to enhance research and operational capacities in agriculture and bioscience through hands-on training and technical knowledge exchange. Held as part of the KOICA-supported project “Capacity Building for the Center for Agriculture and Bioscience of IPB University,” the workshop is co-organized by Seoul National University and IPB University.

Since the signing of the MoU and MoA between the two universities in 2023, the partnership has expanded through joint training programs, academic exchanges, and leadership initiatives. With the design of the National Instrumentation Center for Agriculture and Bioscience (NICAB) now finalized, this workshop marks a key step toward its implementation.

The program brings together faculty, researchers, and over 15 Korean companies and institutions specializing in scientific instrumentation and research infrastructure. Participants will engage in practical sessions on equipment operation, maintenance strategies, and institutional management systems essential for sustainable research development.

By fostering collaboration between academia and industry, the workshop is expected to contribute to strengthening Indonesia’s national research capacity and supporting the successful establishment and long-term operation of NICAB.
