Networking for NICAB: Capacity Building for Rectors Program
The Leadership Capacity Building for Rectors Program, held in Seoul from 21–28 April 2024 as part of the LPDP–Rectors Leadership Program in Korea and the Asian Universities Forum, was co-organized by IPB University, Seoul National University (SNU), and the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP), with participation from Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (MoECRT) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). The program successfully concluded with strong support from many partners and featured welcoming remarks and active engagement from SNU leadership, including the President and the Dean of Agriculture & Life Sciences. Distinguished lectures by Professors Kang Byung-Chul, Lee Jeong-Dong, Ko Gil-Gon, and Lee Chan provided valuable insights into Korea’s economic development, the role of universities, and performance management for institutional capacity building, offering meaningful guidance to Indonesian university leaders. Site visits to SNU’s advanced research facilities—such as NICEM and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital—served as concrete models for developing NICAB’s research and operational capacity. The program also highlighted Korea’s industry–university linkages through briefings from Lotte, Naver, Ulsan University, and Hyundai Motors/Hyundai Heavy Industries, showcasing digital innovation, corporate engagement, and regional cooperation. With the participation of representatives from major Korean universities, the program created new momentum for Korea–Indonesia academic exchange and collaboration, and strengthened institutional networks and leadership understanding, helping lay the foundation for effective NICAB capacity building and future Korea–Indonesia academic cooperation.
